At first, we thought the black liquid was oil, that we'd struck it rich and that we'd be able to retire and live in leisure. We actually started writing down all teh ways we'd spend the money. Our first choise was...
to go on a cruise around the world. We loved to cruise and had been on many fun adventures as a family as we explored the Caribbean and Mexico, Hawaii and the Panama canal. We couldn't get enough of cruising. However, it did cost money and it took months, sometimes years to save up for the next adventure. We decided unanimously that a cruise around the world would be the first things we would spend our fortune on.
What was next? Money would be no object with our windfall! That is where we found ourselves in serious debate. We could all agree on a cruise but after that we were very much divided. Mom wanted to buy a mansion, dad wanted the latest and greatest luxury sports car. Elizabeth wanted enough books to form a home library that would take up an entire room! Callie wanted to open an animal sanctuary and rescue wildlife as well as domestic animals. What did I want? I wanted to buy my place on the next spaceship heading anywhere beyond this earth.
Could we afford it all? We hardly new. But boy did we argue about it. Finally my little brother Edwin, who hadn't made one single desire known cleared his throat. Edwin isn't much of a talker and so when he does make a noise we all tend to listen. Mom asked" what is it Edwin?" Edwin stated that we should buy a mansion big enough to have a whole room for a library, and enough garage bays to fit all of dad's sport cars. We should live on property big enough that Callie could have her animal sanctuary. He also suggest it be near Cape Canaveral Florida so I could train for my space mission.
It all made sense and seemed so logical. We smiled and then started laughing. We all found it easy to forgive and decided that our dreams sounded doable. But then I had a thought...Edwin hadn't asked for anything. That didn't seem fair. I brought up our having left Edwin out. We all turned at once and asked "Edwin, what would you do with all the money we are going to get?!" Edwin sat there and rubbed the seams of his blanket all while sucking on his tongue. We waited and waited. Finally Edwin said " I would buy a years supply of bubblegum, tour the hot wheels factory, fly a drone and go to Disneyland every month of the year."
"O.K." Mom and dad said.
Our plans were settled.
